FILM&DRAMA. Here the border between films and movies is difficult to find. Some of the US directors can do both. Some make films once or twice. Some titles I use for Film-North and other classes. American film industry is about the use of film language, not its development.I do change some titles from one semester to another, I want even to change the name of the course "Film & Culture" (to stress the social and historical applications of film). Maybe thhe best solution would be to keep the frame of this class, but offer different direction each time. Something like "Film: Comedy" and "Film: Drama" (although I don't want to loose the film language focus).
I recommend to go through the pages of Film & Drama class, if you want to be enrolled in Film Directing classes, or the graduate course "Visions of the Northern Mind"
Also, for the kinds in the Summer Arts Film class, check it out, it will help to move ahead faster.
old Film&Drama
Notes on Godfather are gone. They (students) know the movie; easy to use as a frame of references. Important to study the genre (drama): between tragedy and comedy! Elements of myth: 3 sons, family (see THEMES or TOPICS), generations, man v. society and etc.
Aesthetic analysis: music, color, casting...
Parallel montage: baptism and killing scene [ godfather ] (other examples)
Screen Event (samples)
